Science and technology

Science and technology is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Science provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real world problems. The inquiry and skill-based nature of science opens doors to ideas and discoveries.

Science

Our students are engaged in challenging learning activities which develop their knowledge of a range of scientific and technological concepts. This Key Learning Area covers the strands of Physical Phenomena, Information Communication, Products and Services, Built Environments and Living Things.

Purposeful hands on experiences allow them to investigate, design, problem solve and communicate their findings, conclusions and judgements.

We are proud of our outstanding environmental sustainability education initiatives at Arcadia Public School. Through energy conservation, waste reduction and gardening programs, our students adopt behaviours and practices which protect the environment while acquiring attitudes of care and concern for the environment.

A wide range of scientific equipment, computer software and Internet resources support our students in their studies. Classrooms are well equipped with computer technology enhancing our students learning programs. Interactive White Boards in every classroom increase the development of skills in all Key Learning Areas.

Computer Technology is integrated across all subjects with our students confidently applying their skills to a meaningful range of tasks.

Technology

At Arcadia Public School we understand that technology is changing the way children learn.

Harnessing the latest innovations in technology, we believe that the use of technology enhances students’ learning and helps equip then to be engaged and informed citizens.

Your child will be introduced to, and develop, a comprehensive range of skills  to utilise the latest technologies to locate, access, evaluate, store and retrieve information.
